InStyle recently offered an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the 2024 Olympic uniforms designed by Ralph Lauren and produced entirely in America by Ferrara Manufacturing. From sourcing wool in Oregon and Colorado to crafting each garment in Ferrara’s Long Island City facility, these uniforms are a testament to the enduring spirit of American manufacturing and craftsmanship.
Ferrara Manufacturing has been working for over a year to produce garments for Team USA, marrying heritage techniques with cutting-edge technology. "We love marrying modern-day technology with craft," said Gabrielle Ferrara, COO of Ferrara Manufacturing. This delicate balance is reflected in the uniforms, which combine traditional craftsmanship—like hand-sewn blazer collars—with modern innovations, such as 3D-printed guides for attaching patches.
The 2024 Olympic uniforms feature iconic American styles with a modern twist. For the opening ceremony, athletes wore navy blazers with red trim, light-wash jeans, and white suede shoes, while closing ceremony uniforms included a white denim moto jacket emblazoned with "USA." These looks reflect Ralph Lauren’s vision of “comfortable but fashion-forward” designs that celebrate American tailoring.
Beyond the aesthetics, the process showcases Ferrara Manufacturing’s expertise. Each fabric is carefully cut, matched, and crafted with precision to ensure consistency, while fittings for all 592 athletes ensure each piece complements the unique dimensions of competitors across sports. “We don’t really have room for error here,” said Talveer Sehmbi, Ralph Lauren’s head tailor for the games.
As Gabrielle Ferrara noted, “It’s not just about making clothes; it’s about making our athletes feel great so they can focus on winning their games.” With this attention to detail and a commitment to Made-in-USA excellence, Ferrara Manufacturing continues to redefine what’s possible in domestic production.
