France24 on Keeping the Fabric of New York’s Garment District Alive: Ferrara Manufacturing’s Role

Published on June 2, 2020

France 24 highlighted the struggles and resilience of New York City’s historic Garment District, a neighborhood that once employed hundreds of thousands but now faces steep declines due to rising costs and shifting production overseas.

In the article, Gabrielle Ferrara, co-owner of Ferrara Manufacturing, shared her concerns about the district’s future, stating, “We’re at a critical point in the neighborhood’s history.” Despite the challenges, Ferrara Manufacturing remains a proud part of the district’s legacy, employing up to 75 skilled workers to produce high-quality garments during peak seasons like New York Fashion Week.

The Garment District’s unique ecosystem—a one-stop hub where designers can go from concept to finished product within 24 hours—remains unmatched globally. Yet, as other businesses close, the district's survival depends on urgent action and innovative solutions.

Ferrara Manufacturing is committed to preserving this essential part of NYC’s cultural and economic identity, continuing to support the skilled workforce and local production that define the district’s rich heritage.
